What does empowerment mean?

The term empowerment originally comes from the field of psychology and social pedagogy; it can best be translated as “self-empowerment” or also “self-competence”. Empowerment encompasses strategies and measures that are designed to enable people and organizations to represent and shape their own interests.

Empowerment refers to strategies and measures that are intended to increase the degree of autonomy and self-determination in the lives of people or communities and enable them to represent their interests (again) on their own authority, on their own responsibility and in a self-determined manner (“help for self-help”). Empowerment refers to both the process of self-empowerment (emancipation) and the professional support of people to overcome their feeling of powerlessness (powerlessness in sociopolitical terms) and to perceive and use their creative scope and resources. The prerequisites for empowerment within an organization are a culture of trust and a willingness to delegate responsibility at all hierarchical levels, appropriate training and suitable communication systems.

The term empowerment is also used for an achieved state of self-responsibility and self-determination; in this sense, empowerment is sometimes also referred to as self-competence in German.

The term empowerment originates from U.S. community psychology and is associated with the social scientist Julian Rappaport (1985).

As part of digital transformation projects, it is essential to optimize and automate both the business processes and the individual workflows in the company in addition to the actual digitization project, such as the introduction of no/low-code software.

For this to succeed, historically grown structures, processes and systems often have to be broken up and realigned. This requires both individual employees and the entire corporate culture to fundamentally change the way they approach and view such projects.

Our services, in combination with our guidelines for the successful introduction and operation of No-/Low-Code projects, as well as our numerous recommendations for empowerment and success/effectiveness coaching, provide you with the right tools to be successful for your organization and for you in the long term – let us mpower you!
